Experience
Before coming to Olive Branch High School, I taught at Collierville High School in Collierville, TN. During my time at CHS, I taught all levels of Spanish: Standard Spanish 1 and 2, Honors Spanish 1, 2 and 3 and AP Spanish. In addition to being certified to teach AP Spanish, I graded AP Spanish Exams and remain certified to grade AP Spanish Exams.

Bio
I was born and raised in West Plains, MO, where I graduated from high school in 1973. I moved to Memphis to continue my education and graduated in 1977. I was married to my husband, Charlie Lea, for 33 years until his passing in 2011, and we have two sons. Brian is married to Puja, and they live in Smyrna, GA with their son Nolan. Matt lives in Denver, CO. I now make Olive Branch my home with my two dogs, Rudy and Tony. This will be my fifth year at Olive Branch High School, and I will be teaching Spanish 1 and 2 and French 1 and 2.

miércoles 3/25:

Duolingo: choose "intro" and read "Tips" before starting the activity. Then complete the first activity. Create a profile so you can see your progress as the lessons continue. You will have to click continue throughout the activity but the egg will be in a gold circle with a crown when you have finished.

Conjuguemos.com: choose "use without account"; click on #2 Present tense (regular verbs only); complete the "Graded Practice". This activity will include the Vosotros form, so here are those endings so you can write them correctly: -ar = áis   -er = éis   -ir = ís

el jueves 3/26:

Duolingo: Click on "Phrases" and read "Tips" before starting. Complete the activity.

Conjuguemos: On main page, click on #2 Present tense (regular verbs only). If the computer takes you back to where you finished last time, click on the icon in the top left corner that has 3 boxes and an arrow; then click on activity page and choose games. Here, choose the crossword and complete the activity. The puzzle will use the regular present tense verbs and a subject, but you will only type in the correct form of the verb. A few of the verbs will be the vosotros form, so here are those endings: -ar = -áis  -er = -éis  -ir = -ís

 

el viernes 3/27

Duolingo: At the top of the page above the Spanish flag, you will see a line of choices. Click on the second one from the left: Stories; click on the first choice: Good Morning; Turn up the audio so you can listen while you read and use the "continue" button in the bottom right corner to progress through the activity until you have completed. Feel free to use Wordreference.com if you need a translation.

Conjuguemos: Go to the activities page. If the computer took you back to the main page when you logged on, click on #2 Present tense (regular verbs only); click on Flashcards; Click on each card or press enter to see the conjugation on the back of the card. Click on the face that indicates your knowledge of each verb and complete the activity. The computer times some of the activities but ignore the clock. We only care about knowing the verbs!

 

el lunes 3/30

Duolingo: when you log on, make sure that you are on the "Learn" page, with all of the circles. Click on the circle with the airplane that says "Travel". Click on "Tips" and read the review "ser" and "estar" (Our notes for this use "doctor" for "ser" and "help" for "estar"). Then click "Start" and complete the activity. Remember the activity is in sections and you will have to click "Start" for each section. The activity isn't complete until the gold circle is complete with the gold crown.

Conjuguemos: When you log on, click on "Use without account"; then click on "Vocabulary (textbook), the second choice under "Browse Activities". You will have to scroll down to the textbook "Así se dice 2 (chapter 1)" which will be choice #37.  Click on it and then choose and click on "Flash Cards".  Go through flipping each card first to review and clicking on the appropriate "face" for your comfort level with that word or phrase. Remember you can use wordreference.com if you need help with a word. Go through the cards 3 times.

martes 3/31

Duolingo: Log into duolingo and make sure that you're on the "Learn" page, where all of the circles are. Click on the "Tips" in the purple box under the circle with the Hamburger in it. After reading the review information in "Tips", click on "Start Lesson". Complete the lesson, remembering to click on Continue and Start when necessary: the activity is completed when the circle around the hamburger is completely gold and there is a gold crown.

Conjuguemos: Log into conjuguemos. On the main page, click on #3 Present tense (stem-changing verbs)...These are the "SHOE" verbs. [these are the verbs that we drew the "shoe" around the yo, tú, él and ellos forms on our conjugation charts: querer = quiero; poder = puedo] Conjuguemos will use a few "vosotros" forms. Vosotros is out of the shoe like nosotros: querer = vosotros queréis; poder = podéis. Click on "Flash Cards" and complete the activity. Be sure to go through once flipping every card so that you can look at all the forms on the back of the cards. Then go through them twice more.

Duolingo: Log into duolingo and make sure you are on the "Learn" page with all the circles. Click on the circle with the baby labeled "Family". Click on the "Tips" and read the review material: how to make questions Tú and Tu. Click on "Start Lesson" and complete the lesson.

Conjuguemos: When you log on to the main page, click on #3 Present Tense (stem-changing verbs) and click on "Games". Select the crossword puzzle. Complete the puzzle. Don't forget that you are not writing the subject, just the correct form of the verb for that subject. Also, you may use wordreference.com English to Spanish to find the infinitive of the verb and then click on Conjugate to see the conjugation if you need to.

el viernes 4/3

Duolingo: Log on to Duolingo. On the "category bar" at the top of the page, click on "Stories" and click on the loaf of bread icon that says "una cosa". Read the story and complete the activity.

Conjuguemos: On the main page, click on #3 Present tense (stem-changing verbs. Then click on "Games" and click on "Memory".  On the pull down "4x3", choose 4x4. Complete the game, then click on the curved arrow button and play 4 times.

el lunes 4/6

Duolingo: When you log on to Duolingo, make sure that the "Learn' icon is highlighted on the categories that the circles are visible on the page. Click on the circle with the sock labeled "Shopping". Click on it and click on "Tips" in the purple box that appears. Read the "Tips" material, which reviews the pronunciation of the letter "r" and the position of adjectives (usually after the noun they modify). After reviewing the "Tips", click on "Start Lesson' and complete the lesson.You may notice that Duolingo uses the word "cartera" for purse whereas we learned the word "bolsa". This is NOT a mistake, but rather another example of the many synonyms that we encounter in a language.

Conjuguemos: Log onto Conjuguemos and make sure that you are on the "main page". Scroll down to #4 and click on "Present tense (spell-changing verbs)". You will see a small green rectangle in the upper right hand corner labeled "charts and printables". Feel free to use these for help or for extra practice. Click on "Flash Cards" and complete the activity. Be sure to go through once flipping every card so that you can look at all the forms on the back of the cards. Then go through them twice more, clicking on the "face" that reflects your comfort level with that verb. Be aware that many of these are verbs that you have not seen before, so use this as a learning opportunity and complete the activity diligently. These spelling changes occur ONLY for the sake of pronunciation and the new ones will NOT be on your final exam. [most of the changes occur only in the "yo" form and the rest of the verb is regular (like "hacer") some of the others only have the change "within the shoe"]

Duolingo: When you log on to Duolingo, click on the open book icon labeled "Stories". Click on the present labeled "Surprise!. Read and complete the activity. After reviewing this material, click "start lesson" and complete the activity.

Conjuguemos: Log onto Conjuguemos and make sure that you are on the "main page". Scroll down to #4: Present tense (spell-changing verbs) and click on it. Today the review is how to make a verb negative and an explanation about infinitives in Spanish. After reviewing the Tips section, click on start lesson and complete the activity.

Conjuguemos: GRADED ACTIVITY: Log onto Conjuguemos and make sure that you are on the "main page". Scroll down to #4: Present tense (spell-changing verbs) and click on it. Duolingo: Log onto Duolingo and make sure you on the "Learn" category page with all of the circles. Click on the circle with the egg in it labeled "People". Click on the egg and then click on the "Tips" in purple box that appears. Today the "Tips" section is reviewing how to say "my name is..." in Spanish and that adjectives must agree in number and gender with the noun that they modify, and how to ask where someone is from and how to respond with where someone is from.

Conjuguemos: GRADED ACTIVITY: Log onto Conjuguemos and make sure you are on the "main page"... the one with "Browse Activities and the red-yellow-red circle. Under "Browse Activities, to "Grammar", which is the next to the last choice and click on it. Scroll down to #9: Gustar and verbs like gustar #1 and click on it. Notice that if you move your cursor to the upper write hand corner, there is a green rectangle with "worksheets and printables"... feel free to use the help that these can give as you work through the activity. Click on "Graded Practice" and complete the activity.

Duolingo: Log onto duolingo and make sure you are on "Learn" section with all the circles. Click on the purple circle with the gold castle in it. This is checkpoint 1 and you have to complete it to move on. Click Start and complete the activity.

Conjuguemos: Log onto Conjuguemos and make sure you are on the main page with "Browse Activities". You want the category "Verbs", which is the first one under Browse Activities. Scroll down to #9 Preterite tense (regular verbs only). Click on it. Click on "Flash Cards and read the instructions. Then click on "Got it".  Click on each of the flash cards, studying the conjugation on the back, then clicking on the "face" that reflects your confidence about the conjugation. Go through the stack 4 more times, studying the conjugation on the back each time. Some of the verbs may be new to you and don't forget that conjuguemos uses the vosotros form too.

Scroll down to #12 Preterite tense (all verb types). Click on it. Click on "Flash Cards" and read the instructions. After reading the instructions, click on Got it. Click on each card and study the preterite conjugation on the back, selecting the face that reflects your comfort level with each verb. Go through the deck 4 times, trying to improve you memory of each verb conjugations.

Conjuguemos: Log onto conjuguemos and make sure you are on the main page with "Browse Activities". You want the category "Verbs", which is the first one under Browse Activities. Scroll down to #12 Preterite tense (all verb types). Click on it. Click on "Guided Practice" and go through the activity twice. After completing the activity twice, take a picture of the completed "second time" and email it to me.

viernes 5/1

Duolingo: Log onto Duolingo and click on the open book icon labeled "Stories". Click on the box with the two hands and coind in it labeled "A Little Bit of Money". Read the story and complete the activity.

Conjuguemos: Log onto conjuguemos and make sure you are on the main page with "Browse Activities". You want the category "Vocabulary Themes", which is the third one under Browse Activities. Scroll down to #15, Spanish Vocabulary: Colors. Click on it. Click on "Flash Cards" and read the instructions. Click on "Got it" and go through the deck, clicking on the face that reflects your comfort level with each Spanish color word. Repeat the activity 4 times.

French 2 - Distance Learning

You will need the app Duolingo on your phone, or you can go to duolingo.com on a computer.

You will need to access conjuguemos.com on a comuter.

You will select the French option for both duolingo and conjuguemos.

mercredi 3/25:

Duolingo: choose "Basics 1" and complete the first activity. If you read the "Tips" first, it will review the material before you start. Create a profile so you can see your progress as the lessons continue. you will click continue after every answer and each section to keep going. The egg will be in a gold circle with a crown when you have finished.

Conjuguemos.com: choose "use without account";  if the Spanish flag red and gold is beside "Browse activities", click on it and choose the French flag: blue,white,red. click on #2 Le Present tense ( -er verbs); complete the "Graded Practice". The computer will expect you to correct a wrong answer before going on.

jeudi 3/26

Duolingo: Choose Greetings and complete the activity.

Conjuguemos: click on #2 Le present (-er verbs) and then click on "Games" and choose the crossword. If your computer or phone started where you finished yesterday, click on the 3 boxes and arrow icon in the top left corner and select activity home and it will take you to where you can select "games". Complete the activity: the squares will turn green if your word is correct.

vendredi 3/27:

Duolingo: Click on the egg Basics 2 and read the "tips" before completing the activity. Complete the activity.

Conjuguemos: Click on #2 Le present (-er verbs) Click on the "flashcards" and complete the activity.

lundi le 30 mars

Duolingo: If the computer opens to "All Courses" when you log on, click on the Blue "Switch to Course" rectangle.  On the bar at the top, click on the first choice "Learn". Click on the second egg (with the suitcase) "Greetings".  Click on "Tips" and read the review material. Click on "Start Lesson" and complete the activity. Remember, the lesson isn't finished until the circle is completely gold with a gold crown...you will have to click on "continue" a LOT!

Conjuguemos: Click on "Use without an account and then make sure the circle next to "Browse Activities" is blue, white and red for the French flag. If it is not, click on it and choose French in the pull down menu. Under "Browse Activities", click on the last choice: "Grammar".  Click on #1 French adjective/noun agreement #1. Click on "Graded Practice and complete the activity. Remember: in French, the adjective must agree in gender and number with the noun that it modifies.

 

 mercredi 4/1

Duolingo: When you log on to Duolingo, look at the category bar at the top of the page. You will see the first icon highlighted (3 circles, blue, yellow and red); click on the second icon, which is an open book and is labeled "stories". Click on the book and then click on the first story "Good Morning".  You will need the sound turned up so that you can hear the story as you read it. If you hear/see a word that you don't recognize, you can hover the cursor above the word and English will appear. Complete the activity.

Conjuguemos:  When you log on, make sure the circle next to Browse Activities is the blue, white and red for French. Under Browse Activities, move the cursor to the last choice and click on Grammar. Click on it. Click on Adjectives and Nouns under Grammar Concepts and click on #3, adjective/noun agreement #3. Click on Graded Practice, Start Graded Practice and complete the activity.

mardi 3/31

Duolingo: When you log on, make sure you in the "Learn" section by clicking on the blue, yellow and red circles on the bar at the top (labeled "Learn") Click on the egg in the circle labeled "Basics 2" and click on "Tips" in the purple box. Read through the "Tips" information to review the regular -er present tense verb conjugation. Click on "Start Lesson" and complete the lesson, remembering that you will have to click "continue" and "start" many times to complete the exercise.

Conjuguemos: Once you are on the site, Click on "Grammar" under "Browse Activities" (it's the next to last choice). Under "Adjectives and Nouns", click on 2. French adjective/noun agreement #2. Complete the activity.

Before going on to the next cart, click on the face that indicates how confident you are about your understanding of that verb.  There will be some verbs that you have never seen before, but remember, since they are regular, they are conjugated just like "finir". Go through the stack 4 times.
