After graduation I enlisted in the US Army and served 3 1/2 years mostly at Fort Campbell, KY. While in the army, I served as a squad leader for an artillery unit and also taught many military adjustment classes. It was my time in the army that sparked my love for teaching. I found great joy helping young soldiers transition and watching them succeed.

Upon my honorable discharge, I enrolled at Southern Illinois University (Carbondale). I worked extremely hard through SIUC's vigorous education program. I am proud to say that I graduated from SIUC with my bachelor's degree in history education and a minor in coaching. I will forever be a SIU Saluki! GO DAWGS!!!
